Our History

My how we’ve grown!

The Lutheran Home was originally established in Puyallup in 1938 providing care and housing for 23 seniors. Soon, the growing need for senior care became evident and The Lutheran Home moved to a larger, temporary location on East B Street where it became Tacoma Lutheran Home. In 1978, thirty-two Lutheran Churches joined together to raise $750,000 for a down payment for our current campus on almost 30 acres in the beautiful north end of Tacoma.

We now proudly provide services to over 350 seniors daily, makingTacoma Lutheran Home much more than a home but rather a small community within itself. Thus, we are now known as Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community.

Our years of quality care and service have earned TLRC a reputation for excellence and a leader in senior care.

We continue to act on our original premise and promise to provide “a real home without an institutional atmosphere, centered in the love of God and available to any in need.”

Just like our seniors, we continue to improve with age!
